Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia): In Vitro Evaluation of Antibacterial Properties

Antibiotic resistance has become a global concern and hence, the search for other source of antimicrobials initiated to find way control infections in future. The main objective this paper is screen Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) its antibacterial activity. stem Tinospora cordifolia used prepare extract determining it’s vitro activity as per agar well diffusion method. In method 100μl 24 hr broth culture bacteria was aseptically evenly swabbed on Mueller Hinton plates. Wells about 8 mm diameter were cut using sterile cork-borer. 100 μl plant extracts different concentrations then placed into separate wells. plates incubated at 37 oC 24hr. Antimicrobial giloy determined by measuring zone inhibition. methanolic showed 13, 11, 9 5 inhibition S. aureus cultures 100, 75, 50 25 mg/ml concentration, respectively while hot water 14, 12, 10 cold 10, 8, 0 25mg/ml respectively. indicated 6 4 E.coli 16, 12 It been observed that very promising results bacterial through varies from few cm. This study indicates in-vitro effect which needs further validation in-vivo studies.
